Culture and History in Sant'Orsola

The Museo Pietra Viva presents the mineralogy and ethnography of the Sant'Orsola Terme and Fersina Valley area. It is housed in the former seat of the municipality of Sant'Orsola Terme, a 17th-century building. The folk painter Pietro Albertini from Lavis decorated the building using natural paints.

There are two entrances to distinguish when planning a visit to the museum: the first is in the garden and has a ramp. The second leads through the main façade and is accessible only by stairs. This difference in the building's access arrangements may be important information for your personal planning.

The Church of Sant’Orsola in Sant’Orsola Terme is also one of the town's historic landmarks; it was first mentioned in 1532. The Segheria Sant'Orsola was one of the last sawmills in Trentino to remain in operation and continued working until the 1980s. It was connected to a mill and a blacksmith's workshop. Its history therefore points to craft and commercial activities that were once closely interconnected in Sant'Orsola.

Trails, Waterfall and Agriculture

Sant'Orsola Terme has numerous trails that can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. One specific starting point is the Masi Alti loop trail: it begins in the main square of Sant'Orsola Terme and, from Gheghe, follows bike trail 2398.

Another natural destination is the Cascata di Val Pegara. From Sant'Orsola, it can be reached near the church via a paved road that runs along the right bank of the Torrente Fersina. The waterfall is approximately 30 metres high and lies near the point where Val Pegara meets the Torrente Fersina.

Alpine Farming and Regional Products

The local landscape includes Malga Cambroncoi. More than 60 cows graze freely on its pastures every summer. The malga produces raw-milk cheese, ricotta, tosella and caciotte. These products are offered at the agriturismo together with traditional dishes from the region.

Sant'Orsola Terme is also known for growing berries such as strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. In local shops, the locally grown small fruits are available together with honey from mountain flowers, whose varieties range from acacia to rhododendron. These are joined by flavoured grappas and herbal infusions. This makes it possible to discover the regional cuisine not only through individual dishes, but also through agricultural products and typical souvenirs.

For further travel planning, you can also discover Terlago, Valle San Felice, Almazzago, Prissian, Pieve Di Ledro, Schöffbrück, Ischia Di Pergine and Sanzeno: Terlago, Valle San Felice, Almazzago, Prissian, Pieve Di Ledro, Schöffbrück, Ischia Di Pergine and Sanzeno.
