Sanzeno combines archaeological heritage, sacred history and the Lez di San Romedio.

Archaeology at the Museo Retico

The Museo Retico houses a permanent exhibition on the local archaeological heritage, spanning from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. The “Sanzeno Antica” exhibition area also presents the history of archaeological research from the 19th century to the present day. The museum also includes rooms for temporary exhibitions, activities and educational workshops.

Basilica and sacred history

The Basilica dei SS. Martiri di Sanzeno stands on the site where Sisinio, Martirio and Alessandro, evangelists from Cappadocia, suffered martyrdom on 29 May 397. The building features a Gothic-Renaissance style. Among the surviving elements of the old church is an imposing Romanesque bell tower. Inside, the marble high altar from 1771 houses a painting by Giambattista Lampi depicting the martyrs.

Lez di San Romedio: Path through the rocks

The Lez di San Romedio begins at the Museo Retico di Sanzeno and follows the route of an old 19th-century irrigation canal, running partly through the rock and partly along wooden walkways. The hike from Sanzeno to San Romedio is easy and follows a level path; it takes 45 minutes from the Museo Retico di Sanzeno to the sanctuary. For 2026, the Lez di San Romedio is considered open and accessible. A climbing helmet and suitable footwear are mandatory. The combination of rocky sections and wooden walkways makes the required equipment an integral part of preparing for this route. The Museo Retico building is located at the beginning of the nature trail leading into the gorge of the San Romedio sanctuary.

Experience Val di Non through multimedia

The multimedia offering at Casa de Gentili includes an approximately 15-minute film with a soundtrack about a helicopter flight over the entire Val di Non. Five talking panels show short films about the history and sociocultural life of the valley. There is also a walkable, illuminated orthophotographic map of Val di Non showing municipalities, fortified residences, noble houses and hermitages.

Agriculture and rural everyday life

Casa Contadina di Sanzeno provides an overview of two centuries of agricultural history in Val di Non through tools, household objects and photographs. It is a rural home preserved unchanged for centuries, with a craft workshop, furniture, household objects, clothing and former workplaces such as a tailor’s shop and a shoemaker’s workshop. An informative tour of local customs, traditions and working techniques is aimed at children, adults, families, and schoolchildren.
