Castello-Molina Di Fiemme takes you into a village world shaped by history: Castello di Fiemme lies in a broad, sunny meadow basin, while Molina di Fiemme is situated along the Avisio stream at the entrance to Val Cadino.

Historical traces around Castello di Fiemme and Molina di Fiemme

At the eastern edge of Castello di Fiemme, Dos Zelor recalls an ancient village that emerged around 2,000 years ago and has since been buried; archaeological findings confirm its existence. Dos Zelor was designated a cultural monument of regional interest in 1975 and incorporated into the historical heritage of Val di Fiemme. A circular trail just under 2 km long leads through rural roads and meadow paths. Information panels explain the landscape, nature, traditions and history. The circular trail therefore remains limited to a short walking section.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire was built between 1850 and 1856 on the site of the former Eppan castle, consecrated in 1864 and restored in 1925. To the north of the church, the Chiesetta della Madonna di Lourdes originally featured Gothic forms that were adapted in later periods; it was consecrated in 1216. In Molina di Fiemme, the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Antonio was built between 1846 and 1852 beside the Croz del Cogòl rock.

The Segheria Veneziana is a historic sawmill on the Rio Gambis. It was built in 1888 and powered by a three-metre-tall wooden gravity water wheel. Castello di Fiemme is also home to four medieval buildings known as “case romane”.

Landscape between stream, lake and natural areas

Lago di Stramentizzo is an artificial lake that holds back the water of the Avisio stream. On 5 July 1956, the former village of Stramentizzo was flooded by the lake; the stone portal of the former church has been preserved.

The Riserva Locale di Brozin is of particular botanical, floristic, faunistic and geological interest. An approximately 3.5 km-long walking loop with 15 information panels and three access points opens up this natural area and can be planned as a separate trail stage.

Cycling, cross-country skiing and rafting in Val di Fiemme

For cycling travellers, the Bike Express is a shuttle with 50 seats and a bicycle trailer on the uphill route from Molina di Fiemme to Canazei. In winter, the cross-country skiing route in Val di Fiemme can be divided into four sections. It runs from its lowest point near Molina di Fiemme at approximately 800 metres to Moena at 1,200 metres; this sequence of elevations can be taken into account when dividing the route sections.

Adventure Dolomiti Rafting offers rafting trips preceded by a short theoretical and practical briefing.
