Discover Sover: Mountain Trails, Village Culture and Historic Farmsteads
Accommodation in Sover
Sover between Lagorai and village culture
Sover combines high-altitude forests, alpine pastures and varied trails with a townscape shaped by craftsmanship and sacred details. This creates a travel experience in which nature, hiking stages and the history of individual farmsteads and buildings stand side by side. Those looking for accommodation in Sover can tailor their stay to their own focus, whether mountain trails, views or local architectural heritage.
The “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route leads through high-altitude forests and alpine pastures. It ranges from just under 1,500 metres at Baita Monte Pat to over 2,000 metres at Monte Cogne. From Sover, there is also a wide panorama on the western slope of Monte Frattoni, opposite Grauno. A trail leads from Piscine uphill through the forest to Maso Monte Alto, a viewpoint with spectacular views over the Cembra Valley.
Hiking trails with different profiles
The “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route is suitable for excursions on warm summer days and for snowshoe hikes in winter. Its elevation figures highlight the differences between the landscape areas and help you match your planned outing to your own hiking rhythm.
The fourth stage of the “Cammino delle terre sospese” runs from Sover to Grumes. It is 12.76 km long, with 667 m of ascent and 641 m of descent. The “Sover e le sue frazioni” trail connects the villages of Sover, Piscine, Monte Alto and Montesover. For orientation in the area, this puts both a clearly quantified stage and a trail between several villages at the centre.
The “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route begins at Baita Monte Pat. From Montesover, it can be reached by car or on foot via SAT 468 and follows SAT 468 to Malga Vernera. From Montesover, Malga Vernera can also be reached via a convenient road through dense forest; it is the starting point for many trails in the heart of Lagorai.
Buildings, churches and craftsmanship in Sover
Along Sover’s main street stand several rustic manor-style houses, some of whose façades bear sacred frescoes. The main street leads to a church dedicated to S. Barbara and the Madonna delle Grazie, containing paintings by C. Segatta and Albertini. The Church of S. Lorenzo preserves three Baroque wooden altars.
Roofs and craftsmanship also give the village distinctive character. Sover’s traditional roofs are covered with yellow-coloured tiles and terracotta tiles from the kilns of Molina di Fiemme. Woodworking is a local tradition in the area around Sover that dates back to the 17th century.
Below Piscine, near the Avisio, Maso Pianaci consists of three old, well-preserved buildings. Two houses in Maso Marigiat are still intact; two others have fallen into ruin. The surrounding land, formerly cultivated with vines and grain, is now overgrown with vegetation. The large rural Maso Castelir near the Avisio mountain stream is now in ruins. It was abandoned after the Second World War and formerly also served as an inn.
Maria Turismo rurale was already a shop with an inn in 1840, selling goods for daily necessities and clothing. At Maria Turismo rurale, Renata offers hikers stories, coffee, space and friendly hospitality.
