Tesero appeals to travelers who want to get to know a place through its visible traces, craftsmanship and diverse experiences. In the historic center, churches, wayside shrines, sundials, frescoes and communal bread ovens – known as “forni dal pan” – shape the townscape. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation, you can first consider whether churches and events, winter sports or a route through Val di Stava should be the focus of your stay.

Churches, Frescoes and Crafts

The Church of San Leonardo in Tesero was probably built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Its interior was decorated with frescoes in 1541 and 1542 by an anonymous Friulian master. This makes the church one of the notable historical sights you can discover in the town.

The Church of San Rocco, located by the cemetery, was built in 1528. Its façade is completely covered with frescoes and features the image known as “Cristo della Domenica.” Casa Jellici offers another way to explore the town’s history: the historic building is used as a museum and also hosts exhibitions and concerts.

The tradition of arts and crafts is also part of Tesero. This includes the production of furniture and musical instruments. Together with the churches, frescoes and old bread ovens, these features create a townscape in which craft and cultural themes stand side by side, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one type of travel experience.

Events with Local Character

During the Christmas season, the streets, courtyards, stables and cellars of Tesero are transformed as part of “Tesero e i suoi Presepi,” a large nativity display. Another highlight is “Le Corte de Tiezer.” Its culmination is “A stroz par le corte,” a tour featuring culinary tastings, demonstrations of traditional crafts, dances, singing and music. Both events connect the town with vivid expressions of local culture.

Winter Sports and Special Excursions

In the Lago district of Tesero, the Centro del Fondo hosted three editions of the World Championships in Nordic skiing: in 1991, 2003 and 2013. Pampeago is important for alpine winter sports. This hamlet of Tesero provides access to the Latemar Dolomites ski area, with 45 kilometers of slopes. From Tesero, Pampeago can be reached by car or ski bus in 15 minutes.

The Osservatorio e Planetario Val di Fiemme offers a different perspective on the surrounding area and the sky. Visits include a presentation of the celestial sphere in the planetarium as well as direct observation of the sky through a telescope. This allows you to complement your stay in Tesero with a scientific experience.

Paths through Val di Stava

The “Dove Stava una valle” trail begins in Tesero, leads uphill through Val di Stava and reaches Centro Stava 1985. The Centro di Documentazione Stava also offers an educational tour lasting about one hour. There, you can learn about the development, causes and responsibilities related to the Stava disaster.

If you would like to combine art and physical activity, RespirArt Art Park can be reached via the Agnello chairlift or on foot. Tesero therefore offers various starting points for planning your trip: historic interiors, events, winter sports, stargazing and paths with a clear connection to the history of Val di Stava.
