St. Pauls combines a historic village center with church art, wine-making traditions and paths through fields and vineyards. This allows you to combine different interests during your holiday: historic architecture, regional cuisine, events centered around wine and experiences in the landscape each characterize the village in their own way.

Historic Village Center and Sacred Buildings

The historic village center of St. Pauls is characterized by traditional house façades, winding oriel windows and picturesque alleyways. At its center stands the parish church of the Conversion of St. Paul, which is often known by the nickname „Cathedral in the Countryside“. Its interior is designed as a late Gothic hall church with three naves.

The parish church also has notably large bells: the „Anna-Maria“ bell in the parish church of St. Pauls has a diameter of over 1.8 meters and weighs a good 3.8 tons. The cemetery of St. Pauls has round-arched arcades with Tuscan columns, complementing the architectural setting around the church. A guided tour of the parish church of St. Pauls is also organized as part of the weekly program.

Sacred buildings and historic finds also come together in the area surrounding the village center. The Church of St. Justina in the Aich district has a carved altar and stands amid the fertile vineyards above the hill of St. Pauls. Also in the Aich district, above the village center of St. Pauls, the remains of a Roman villa with an almost completely preserved, colorful floor mosaic were discovered. An extensive Bronze Age settlement was also discovered at the former Gamberoni nursery in San Paolo.

Wine and Regional Specialties

The WineCultureWeeks take place every summer in St. Pauls and offer select wines as well as regional specialties. The event combines wine with a variety of culinary experiences. These include the „Hospitable Table“, a gastronomic experience featuring dishes prepared by five chefs under the direction of Herbert Hintner.

During the dumpling evening of the WineCultureWeeks, the South Tyrolean women farmers of St. Pauls serve traditional homemade South Tyrolean dumpling specialties made with regional ingredients. During Advent, the Nativity Christmas event turns the alleyways of St. Pauls into a nativity exhibition: Around 100 nativity scenes in various forms and styles are displayed in the historic houses of the village center.

Paths through Vineyards and Landscape

A wide path over unpaved ground runs along these areas and offers views of the Schlern, Latemar and Texel Group. A sunny circular trail offers views of the Schlern and the Rosengarten and connects this landscape with the centuries-old tradition of the South Tyrolean wine-growing region.

When choosing a hotel for your holiday in St. Pauls, you can tailor the focus of your stay to these characteristics of the village: The village center and parish church appeal to those interested in cultural history, the WineCultureWeeks and dumpling specialties to those seeking culinary enjoyment, while the fields, vineyards and mountain views emphasize the connection with the landscape.
