Ladin History and Sacred Sites

The Istitut cultural ladin Majon di Fascegn is based in the historic Tobià de la Pieif, a monumental barn next to the Pieve di Fassa, in Vigo di Fassa. The Pieve di San Giovanni was regarded as the mother church and for centuries was a religious and civic center of the valley. Above the town of Vigo di Fassa lies the church of Santa Giuliana, a sanctuary that has been highly venerated in the valley for centuries. Inside is a large fresco depicting scenes from the life of the patron saint of the Fassa Valley.

Museums Between Valley History and the Present

The Museo Ladin de Fascia presents the history of the valley and the Ladin community. The time span ranges from prehistoric origins to the present day; topics include traditions, legends, crafts and historical events. In the same museum, the Pigui Experience offers a virtual reality game about the valley’s first inhabitants approximately 2,400 years ago. The experience lasts around 20 to 30 minutes and is suitable for children aged 9 and over. The virtual reality game focuses on an early period of the valley’s history; the museum’s presentation, by contrast, extends to the present day. For planning your schedule around the Museo Ladin de Fascia, the Pigui Experience is a separate, time-limited program item.

Mountain Panorama and Winter in Ciampedie

In winter, a cable car runs from Vigo di Fassa to the natural amphitheater of Ciampedie, located at an altitude of 2,000 meters. From there, you can ski on the slopes of the Catinaccio ski area. For winter planning in Vigo di Fassa, the cable car to Ciampedie and skiing on the slopes of the Catinaccio ski area belong to the same activity theme. Several peaks are located in the immediate vicinity of Vigo di Fassa. These include Cigolade, Torre Vallaccia, Punta Masare and Mugoni.
