Culture and Local History

The Museo della Scuola offers a special insight into the everyday life of past generations. Using historical school desks, ink wells, registers and certificates, it reconstructs more than 70 years of local school life. The museum complements the local history with an account of Vigolo Vattaro’s former school routine. The exhibition therefore does not merely display individual objects, but conveys a concrete picture of how schooling was shaped over a long period.

The parish church of San Giorgio also preserves a remarkable testimony: it houses an early Christian bas-relief depicting an olive tree and birds. Amabile Visintainer, known as Santa Paolina, was born in Vigolo Vattaro in 1865.

Historic buildings also shape the surrounding area. Castello di Vigolo was built during the Renaissance at the transition between Vigolana and Marzola to protect the village. Via Claudia Augusta is considered a Roman road built to connect Valsugana with the Adige Valley.

Views and Trails on the Vigolana

From Castel Vigolo, the panoramic view extends across the entire plateau and the impressive carbonate bastions of the Vigolana. The route “I 60 Km della Vigolana” offers another perspective: it includes Terre Rosse above Vigolo Vattaro, with views across the entire Altopiano della Vigolana.

The Vigolana has around 60 kilometers of walking and hiking trails. These include paths between mountain huts as well as themed routes for Nordic walking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The tour “2367 Al castello di Vigolo Vattaro” leads through the historic center of Vigolo Vattaro to Castel Vigolo, an old medieval fortress on a scenic, green hill. Its approximate length is not intended as a guideline for a single outing. It helps you plan the Vigolana’s offerings as a network of trails and decide on the type of activity at an early stage. Nordic walking, mountain biking and horseback riding have different practical requirements than a walk or hike; choosing the type of activity can therefore form the first step in planning the day.

Regional Products and Festa della Patata

Typical products from the Vigolo Vattaro area include honey, wine, chestnuts and cheese, among others.

At the Festa della Patata, visitors can sample local specialties such as the traditional tortel di patate and polenta. The Festa della Patata takes place every year and thus provides a recurring opportunity to experience regional cuisine in direct connection with the area.
