Trails and Route Planning Around Duddova

The Alta-Valdambra CAI Trail 47 passes through Duddova and can be traveled on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. This leaves the choice of means of travel open for different daily itineraries, while the route through Duddova remains fixed.

A specific point of reference is the Ambra–San Martino–Duddova–Cennina–Vepri circular route. It is approximately 14 kilometers long and has 450 meters of elevation gain. The circular route reaches Duddova via CAI Trail 47. Duddova lies between San Martino and Cennina. When planning a day hike, the approximately 14 kilometers and the 450 meters of elevation gain are two separate measurements. The distance indicates the length of the circuit, while the elevation gain adds the ascent to this information. When planning a full day, both values can be taken into account together. This means that, alongside the approximate distance, the gradient remains visible as a separate factor.

The Arbutus Road begins in San Martino, passes through Podere Rota and Cennina, and ends in Duddova. A map, route data and a GPX download are available for La via dei corbezzoli. This makes it possible to prepare for the route using both a map and digital route data.

Village History and Buildings in Duddova

Duddova was probably established between the 5th and 6th centuries AD. The place name Duddova is said to derive from an ancient Ostrogothic leader named Dudda.

The original construction of today’s Church of San Michele Arcangiolo in Duddova is dated to the 13th century. The Church of San Michele Arcangelo was dependent on the Abbey of San Pietro a Ruoti for a long time. Its bell tower is more than 20 meters high and was built in the early 20th century. The church thus brings together an early date for its construction, its long-standing dependence on the abbey and a bell tower built at a later date.

Immediately after leaving Duddova in the direction of I Tribbi stands an old lime kiln, probably dating from the 18th century. Near the Church of Duddova there are also two identical buildings standing close together: I Casotti. The lime kiln is therefore located at the village exit in the direction of I Tribbi, while I Casotti are situated near the church.

Valley Views and Regional Cuisine

Duddova’s privileged location offers spectacular views of the surrounding valley. The view encompasses green hills, cultivated fields, vineyards and olive groves. The valley panorama therefore includes both vegetated slopes and agricultural land and growing areas.

Duddova’s culinary offerings include Osteria La Bottega di Duddova. It serves lunch and dinner in a medieval village in the open air, accompanied by selected wines from the region. Meals are served there at midday and in the evening. The selected wines come from the region and accompany the food served outdoors.
