Calenzano combines fortified history, regional memory and landscape experiences within a compact thematic area. Between the medieval Castello, the MuFiS, trails on Monte Morello and the Calvana, as well as green parkland and agricultural areas, a destination emerges that you can explore according to your interests—culturally, actively or at a more relaxed pace.

Castello and Historical Collections

In the immediate vicinity of Calenzano is the Castello di Calenzano, a castle. It still preserves the characteristic appearance of a fortified medieval village with an oval layout surrounded by walls. The fortification of the Castello di Calenzano is attributed to the Guidi counts; between the 10th and 12th centuries, their possessions extended from Casentino to Romagna and from the upper Valdarno to Empoli and Pistoia. The shape of the village and the far-reaching history of the counts already give the site a clear cultural and historical focus.

The MuFiS – Museo comunale del figurino storico offers another perspective on the past. The museum displays historical figures ranging from the Etruscan era and Roman civilisation to the Second World War, with a particular focus on the Gothic Line and the Resistance. The MuFiS also includes a model-building area that reconstructs the history of toy soldiers, their types and the stages of production.

Nature Trails on Monte Morello and the Calvana

Numerous nature trails, signposted and mapped by the C.A.I., run along the slopes of Monte Morello and the Calvana. They cater to different interests and have varying levels of difficulty. This variety can be incorporated into your personal travel plans: You can combine the landscape with a walk or choose a more demanding route, without all the trails having the same character.

The Sentiero della Pace leads from Travalle via Poggio Farneto, Torri and Vezzano to Valibona. It is signposted with directions and walking times. The Cammino di San Jacopo also passes through Calenzano. The landscape area is also relevant for cyclists, as Parco di Travalle includes a combined cycle and pedestrian path.

Green Spaces and Protected Landscapes

Parco di Travalle is a green, agriculturally characterised area with a combined cycle and pedestrian path, as well as a rural square near the fountain. Il Pratone, a mountain, is also located in the vicinity of Calenzano. The Memoriale di Valibona lies within the locally protected natural area “I Monti della Calvana”. Together, these places bring agricultural land, trails, mountain landscapes and a protected natural area into the picture of Calenzano.

Several historic buildings and parks are located in the immediate vicinity of Calenzano. They include Villa Guicciardini Corsi Salviati, a palace; Parco di Villa Montalvo, a park; Parco dell' Oliveta, a park; and Parco della Villa dei Marchesi Gerini, also a park. The Fiorelli Palace and Palazzo Banci Buonamici, both palaces, are also located in the vicinity of Calenzano. This provides an opportunity to combine architecture, historic sites and landscaped grounds in your plans, while the nature trails and Parco di Travalle offer a different pace of travel.

Olive Oil and a Seasonal Event

The Mostra Mercato dell’Olio Extravergine d’Oliva is part of the local character. The event, established in Calenzano, takes place on the second or third weekend of November. Its 29th edition was held in 2025.
