Turignano: Wine, Olive Oil and Regional Discoveries

Wine Production and Olive Oil at Le Fonti a San Giorgio

Le Fonti a San Giorgio is run by the Giovannelli family, which has been producing Chianti DOCG wine and extra virgin olive oil for three generations. Chianti Le Fonti a San Giorgio bears the Chianti DOCG designation. The cellar produces and matures wines that have been organically certified since the 2020 vintage. Organic farming is used in olive oil production; exclusively products of natural origin are used, leaving no residues in the olive oil. Le Fonti a San Giorgio also applies the principles of integrated farming. The Chianti DOCG designation refers to the wine; the extra virgin olive oil is another product of the family. The organic certification is tied to the 2020 vintage and applies to the wines produced and matured in the cellar. The organic certification therefore does not apply to the estate's olive oil production.

A Hands-On Insight into Wine Culture

At Le Fonti a San Giorgio, the “Art in a Bottle” workshop teaches participants how to design a Bordeaux bottle through material embossing. Matrices, stucco, pigments, gold leaf and relief lettering are used. The selection of materials belongs to the Bordeaux bottle and not to the estate's agricultural work. The bottle is the specific object worked on in the workshop.

Historic Sites and Museums in the Surrounding Area

In the wider area surrounding Turignano is Castello di Fulignano, a castle. Pieve di Sant'Appiano, a historic site, is also located nearby. The Museo Archeologico/Spezieria di Santa Fina and Torre Grossa, both museums, are also situated in the wider surrounding area. The Pieve is associated with the area around Turignano, while the castle is associated with the wider regional area.
