Between the beach and the coastal landscape

Isolotto di Ortano and activities on the water

From the beach, Isolotto di Ortano can be reached by swimming or via the rocks. Which option is suitable for you therefore depends directly on how you plan to move between the beach and the islet. For diving enthusiasts, there is also a wind-dependent special feature: when the wind is from the north, the dive can begin on the southeast side of Isolotto di Ortano. This means the coast can be viewed not only from the shore, but also becomes a starting point for activities on the water.

The Sentiero dell’Amore

The Sentiero dell’Amore offers another perspective on Ortano. The path leads to the Bay of Ortano, alternating between scenic sections by the sea and short stretches through the forest. This alternation particularly shapes the landscape experience: open views across the coast are followed by shadier sections of trail before the route leads back towards the sea. The Sentiero dell’Amore is therefore suitable for a travel plan in which you want to combine time on the beach with a walk through different types of landscape.

Parking and other beaches

For practical orientation on site, the public car park at Spiaggia di Ortano is a five-minute walk from the beach. The beaches of Terranera, Spiaggia Di Barbarossa and Topinetti are also located in the surrounding area of Ortano. This selection broadens the view beyond Spiaggia di Ortano itself and makes the coast an appealing, varied destination for different beach days, without every stretch necessarily having the same character.

Castles, fortress and Roman ruins

The surrounding area of Ortano also offers sites with historical connections. Located there are Castello del Volterraio, a castle, Forte Focardo, a fortress, and the Ruderi di Villa Romana, the ruins of a Roman villa. The Museo Nazionale Delle Residenze Napoleoniche, a museum, is also located in the area around Ortano. Those who do not want to limit their trip to the coast can therefore combine their stay with visits to various historic sites and a museum experience.
