Stazione Bolgheri: Discover the Coast, Trails and Bolgheri
Stazione Bolgheri is a particularly interesting destination if you want to combine the coast, trails and the culture of the Bolgheri area. The railway station itself has no ticket office. When choosing your accommodation and planning your daily schedule, it is therefore worth deciding in advance whether swimming and water sports, cycling, hiking or regional culture should be the main focus.
Beaches, dunes and a cycle path by the sea
In the area around Stazione Bolgheri, the coast of Marina di Bibbona offers wide beaches with fine sand, typical dunes and coastal areas characterised by Mediterranean scrub. The beaches of Marina di Bibbona are suitable for swimming and water sports. A five-kilometre cycle path also runs through the pine forest; it connects the beach area with Cecina Mare.
By bicycle to Bolgheri
The Tra Castagneto Carducci e Bolgheri cycle route leads to the Viale dei Cipressi and into the historic centre of Bolgheri. There, the same route offers the opportunity to taste typical local products of the regional cuisine. In this way, the route combines cycling with a visit to the historic centre and regional products.
Routes between the railway station and the coast
The coastal branch of the Cammino Francigena Mare connects to Stazione Bolgheri railway station and reaches the sea at Marina di Bibbona and Cecina. The Cammino Dalla Via Francigena alla Costa degli Etruschi has its endpoints at the FS railway stations of Certaldo and Bolgheri or Cecina. In addition to the Via Francigena, the Cammino Francigena Mare also crosses the Vie Etrusche Volterra–Piombino and Volterra–Fiesole. The northern routes of the Costa degli Etruschi start, among other places, at Bolgheri railway station and can be combined into one large circular route.
Forest trails for various activities
In the area around Stazione Bolgheri, the Macchia della Magona comprises Mediterranean scrub as well as deciduous and pine forests. For your planning, 16 trails with a total length of 50 kilometres are available there for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. This makes the natural area a versatile element for days when you want to combine exercise and scenery.
Viale dei Cipressi, Oratorio and Bolgheri wines
The five-kilometre-long, cypress-lined Viale dei Cipressi is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. It connects the Oratorio di San Guido with the historic centre of Bolgheri. The Oratorio di San Guido, a hexagonal temple commissioned by the Della Gherardesca family, is also located in the area around Stazione Bolgheri. Some of the best-known wines from Bolgheri include Bolgheri DOC, Ornellaia and Masseto. In this way, the wine tradition adds a culinary focus to the experiences of the trails and coast.
