Discover Antisciana: Local History and Paths through Green Forests

Church and Memorial Sites

Antisciana is home to the parish church “Chiesa dei Santi Pietro, Prospero e Caterina”. It is dedicated to Saints Pietro, Prospero and Caterina. The hamlet also has a memorial plaque commemorating those who fell in 1919. Its inscription names Bacci Eugenio, Bertelli Andrea and Bacci Raffaello as heroes of the war from May 1915 to November 1918. The inscription was placed by the people of Antisciana.

Hikes with Different Profiles

As part of the Festival delle Frazioni, events were held in Antisciana in 2019 and 2022. At the 2019 event, a hike led from the sports facility in Pontecosi along a mule track to the small Chiesina del Lago and the lake’s dam. It then continued uphill for about 3 km to Antisciana. For planning purposes, an uphill climb follows the stops by the lake; Antisciana marks the end of this section of the route.

Another hike led from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana along the Sentiero Ariosto to the foot of the Fortezza di Mont’Alfonso and then via Buggina towards Antisciana. On 2 April, the “A SPASSO CON IL FURIOSO” program also included a hike in Antisciana as part of seven walks through the hamlets of the municipality of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Along the routes, street theatre performances on the Ariostean Imaginary were held.

Community, Accessibility and Local Cuisine

An old path was marked out again on 3 April. It was intended to enable families and tourists to reach Antisciana and then Gragnanella. At this event, a Jolette was available so that people who cannot use their legs could also complete the same old path.

At the 2022 Antisciana stage, a typical lunch was prepared by the local Circolo Anspi. The two-day Scarpinata della Garfagnana also passed through numerous hamlets in the municipality of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, including Antisciana, with stops along the way. It was intended to introduce participants to the traditions and gastronomic specialties of the villages.
