During high water, the volume of water emerging from the overflow of the Frigido source forms a spectacular waterfall. A trail from Forno leads through a chestnut forest via the Freddana source and through a pine forest to Pizzo della Bandiera and the Castagnolo summit meadows at an altitude of 1,075 metres. The hiking trail from Forno to Passo della Focolaccia through Valle degli Alberghi is one of the trails intended to be preserved. Another connection is provided by Sentiero CAI 154, which links Forno and Casania. A short and easy trail also leads from the old Filanda building to the Frigido source. The options therefore range from a short path to the source to routes through several forest and mountain sections.
Bridge, Church and Industrial Archaeology
The historic sites also give Forno a distinct character. Ponte dell’Indugio is an old stone bridge in Forno with a preserved stone arch and is considered the best-preserved of the old bridges in the Massa area. You can reach Ponte dell’Indugio from Massa via Via Bassa Tambura; the bridge is at the entrance to Forno near Via del Commercio. S. Pietro in Forno is a small single-nave church with a lateral bell tower. Its bell tower preserves decorated marble blocks from the former medieval church. The Filanda di Forno in Forno di Massa is a significant example of industrial archaeology.
