Borghetto-melara between history and regional cuisine
Paths, history and regional flavours
In the Borghetto-Melara district, Via del Borghetto and Via Isolone run through the settlement. Bus route L45 connects Soliera FS, San Terenzo, Fosdinovo and Sarzana. If you are planning your stay in connection with several places, this connection provides a clear reference point for your own overview.
Historical points of reference in Caniparola
Villa Malaspina stands on the access road to Caniparola, a district of Fosdinovo. It was built by the Marquises Malaspina at the beginning of the 18th century on fortified predecessor structures. The villa is privately owned and cannot be visited. Its history therefore belongs primarily to the area's visible cultural context, not to a regular sightseeing programme.
In Caniparola, the history continues with L'Arco di Caniparola. It encompassed the Cappella della Madonna della Seggiola, built in the 16th century, and is one of the oldest monuments in the district. Caniparola is also home to both the Chiesa Vecchia and the Chiesa Nuova di Sant'Antonio da Padova. Sant'Antonio da Padova is the patron saint of the district. The churches, chapel and historic building thus provide several different points of connection for culturally interested days.
Local life and remembrance
In the areas of Parco della Memoria, Valentina and Via Melara, an average of two to three cuts were carried out per year. In the Parco della Resistenza in Caniparola, the fallen were commemorated with the laying of a wreath and the blessing of the parish priest.
Vermentino and products from Fosdinovo
The regional flavour can also be connected with Caniparola and Fosdinovo. In the wineries of Fosdinovo, you can taste the fresh and fragrant Vermentino dei Colli di Luni. A programme in Caniparola also included a walk with the guides from AlterEco and Legambiente to Frantoio e Mulino Moro, combined with a tasting of the business's products. The programme additionally included a visit to the Terenzuola vineyard with a tasting of Vermentini, that is, wines from the Colli di Luni DOC appellation, from Fosdinovo.
Accommodation and personal priorities
When planning your accommodation, you can first consider which of these priorities should shape your stay: the paths and local connections, the historic sites in Caniparola, or the wineries and regional products around Fosdinovo. Those who prefer churches and architectural history can focus on L'Arco di Caniparola and the two churches. Those who want to discover regional products will find a different thematic focus in the tastings of business products and Vermentini.
