Thermal waters and wellness in Casciana Terme

The thermal waters of Casciana Terme are called Acqua Mathelda and emerge at the spring at a constant natural temperature of 35.7 Â°C. The Terme di Casciana is a thermal spa complex set among the Pisan hills, with a history spanning more than a thousand years. At Villa Borri, an 18th century residence, you will find two thermal pools, a Turkish bath and wellness treatments inspired by Eastern traditions. In Casciana Terme, this combines a tangible place for relaxation with a long regional history.

History, theatre and distinctive places

The Castello dei Vicari castle is located nearby. The visitor route is entirely multimedia-based and includes interactive stations about the castle’s history and distinctive features. Castello dei Vicari is currently managed by the Associazione Culturale “Il Castello”, is open to tourist visits and is used for conferences and presentations. The Teatro Verdi regularly hosts theatre and opera performances, classical and light music concerts, competitions, cultural events and conferences.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta di Casciana Terme also preserves a noteworthy detail: a small tabernacle contains an image dedicated to the Madonna and Child, attributed to the Maestro di S. Torpè. The Museo del presepe e delle attivitĂ  agricole is also located in the surrounding area. This museum includes a large underground cellar dug into the tuff, imposing 19th century oak barrels, a room formerly used to store oil in traditional terracotta vessels known as coppi, and an oil mill with a stone wheel that remained in operation until 1975.

Excursions in the surrounding area

There are further destinations around Casciana Terme to suit a range of interests. The ancient site of Parco Preistorico Peccioli is located nearby, as is the Ecomuseo dell'Alabastro museum. Further afield in the region are the Museo Piaggio museum and several beaches: Bagno Aurora, Bagno Ausonia, Spiagge bianche and Cala del Leone. The different distances between these destinations offer various ways to combine culture, history and a stay at the beach without reducing Casciana Terme to a single type of holiday.
