Nature and Culture between Garetto and Chianni

Garetto is home to a lignite mine registered as a cultural asset. In June, Chianni hosts the Chianni Opera Festival, a traditional opera event in the historic medieval town centre. Regional Cuisine and Seasonal Traditions

The Sagra del Cinghiale focuses on traditional game dishes. Visitors can enjoy, among other things, pappardelle with wild boar ragù. Over two weekends in November, food stalls are open from Thursday to Sunday, serving wild boar combined with regional products such as extra virgin olive oil. On Sundays, a free shuttle bus operates, allowing visitors to park outside the centre and reach it easily. Chianni has a centuries-old tradition of olive growing, which is closely associated with Chianni’s extra virgin olive oil. Waterfalls and Trails through the Landscape

The Cascate del Ghiaccione consist of three successive waterfalls. The third waterfall is called “Il salto della Capra” and is not easy to reach. You can reach the Cascate del Ghiaccione via the road from Chianni towards Castellina Marittima. After the second bridge, there is a place where you can park; from there, a small forest path follows the river. You should therefore take the differing character of the individual sections into account when planning the excursion.

The Circuiti CA trail network near Chianni includes several trails with varying levels of difficulty. It passes through rolling hills, forests and clear streams. This allows you to take your own ability level and the desired landscape experience into account when choosing a trail.

Cycling Routes with Clear Landmarks

On one cycling route, the road climbs for around 4 kilometres to a pass at an altitude of 509 metres before descending through Località Garetto. The challenging section of the Garetto climb begins at the two hairpin bends immediately before the turn-off to Garetto Basso and is approximately 1.5 kilometres long. The approach is via Provincial Road 14, also known as the road to Miemo. The route passes through Località I Gulfi before reaching the turn-off to Garetto Basso, then continues from there to the next turn-off for Chianni. The climb can be approached from La Sterza or Miemo.

One cycling loop follows the Pian del Pruno provincial road and passes through Località Garetto. The village can be reached via an unpaved road.
