Flower fields and the Padule di Fucecchio

Chiesina Uzzanese combines a landscape shaped by flower fields with the Padule di Fucecchio. The wetland extends over 1,800 hectares between the provinces of Pistoia and Florence, between the Valdinievole and Montalbano, and is the largest inland marshland area in Italy. Chiesina Uzzanese is considered one of the most important starting points for exploring the natural beauty of the Padule di Fucecchio.

Santa Maria della Neve and the central square

The parish church of Santa Maria della Neve brings together several specific historical and artistic features. It was built in 1848; its façade is made of stone and topped by a triangular pediment. The entrance portal dates from the 17th century. The single-nave interior contains Alessandro Bardelli’s work “L'incoronazione della Vergine con due santi” and a statue of Saint Anthony of Padua.

The central square also bears traces of the past. The remains of the Xenodochio are still visible there. The Xenodochio was one of the numerous hospitals along the entire route of the Via Francigena.

Cultural events and festivals

Several events shape the town’s cultural life. The Premio Nazionale di Poesia “Il Fiore” was established in Chiesina Uzzanese in 1979. Since 2016, it has been expanded to include drawing and photography and has taken its present name. The Premio reaches its climax with a gala at the end of July in the central square of Chiesina Uzzanese. The Settimana Chiesinese comprises seven days of cultural initiatives and events in the town and takes place on the occasion of the celebrations and procession in honour of the Madonna della Neve on 5 August.

The Fiera degli uccelli canori takes place every year on 15 August in Piazza della LibertĂ  and along Via Turati and Via Matteotti. The scheduled dates are especially relevant if you want to plan your trip around a specific local event. The church, square and landscape also offer independent points of interest for exploring the town.

Molin Nuovo and local landmarks

The remains of the mill in the district of Molin Nuovo are considered to be of artistic interest. For you, this district therefore offers another specific reason to view Chiesina Uzzanese beyond its church and event dates.
