Goraiolo between cycling routes, hiking trails and Apennine peaks
Goraiolo combines a prominent location at the intersection of several transport links and routes with a landscape that is best explored via roads, forests, ridges and views toward the peaks. The village lies at a crossroads leading toward the villages of Alto Pesciatino and, at the same time, toward the Apennine peaks. Goraiolo can be reached beyond the medieval village of Marliana. Goraiolo’s more recent tourist development is attributed to its advantageous location. This location therefore offers various starting points for cycling, hiking and excursion-related activities.
Road route through dense fir forests
A particularly concrete connection to the landscape is the Strada della Bugia. The route passes through Goraiolo and then continues along the SP3bis. The section near Goraiolo runs through dense fir forests. For a drive through this area, the forest section near Goraiolo and the subsequent continuation along the SP3bis are two consecutive parts of the road route.
Goraiolo and bus route 855
Goraiolo is a stop on bus route 855. Bus route 855 connects Montecatini Terme, Marliana, Panicagliora, Avaglio and Serra.
Cycling between racing connections and elevation gain
Goraiolo lies on the route of the Firenze–Viareggio road race. In addition, the Cronoscalata Marliana-Goraiolo has a clearly defined route profile: It is 5.0 km long and features 282 meters of elevation gain. The distance and elevation difference can be considered as a separate route section when planning a cycling tour. The Cronoscalata Marliana-Goraiolo was also one of the three time-trial sections of the 15th edition of the Gran Fondo Edita Pucinskaite.
Hiking trails and traces of culture
Several routes also run through the area around Goraiolo for those traveling on foot. In the area around Goraiolo, the La Pievaccia–Serra hiking route begins in Panicagliora and continues toward Goraiolo–Pescia. On this route, less than 2 km lead to the ruins of the parish church of S. Andrea di Furfalo, which is also known as La Pievaccia. Another circular hiking route is called Casore del Monte–Femminamorta–Panicagliora–Goraiolo–Marliana–Nievole. It reaches Goraiolo along a ridge and offers views of the mountains in the province of Pistoia. The ruins of the parish church and the views of the mountains in the province of Pistoia therefore provide different objectives for a hike.
