Momigno: History, San Donato and Necci

Momigno combines its history as a rural community with a distinctive historic townscape and regional traditions such as chestnuts and necci. In 1064, Momigno was mentioned as a small rural community. In the 13th century, it became a rural municipality. Historic Center and the Church of San Donato

Momigno later became a walled castle settlement. No traces of the fortifications remain today, apart from the characteristic townscape. Parco della Rimembranza and Monuments

The Parco della Rimembranza di Momigno is considered one of the best-preserved examples of its kind in the Province of Pistoia. It is located on a terrace on the left side of the parish church of San Donato, at the highest point of the historic settlement. The Monumento ai Caduti di Momigno is located on Via Fagno, in the park next to the church, and is dedicated to the fallen of Momigno from the First World War. In the garden beside San Donato, there is also a monument to Anchise, Gerino and Ottavio Baldi. The park, church and monuments thus form a closely connected part of the town's history.

Landscape Between Chestnut Forests and Cultivated Areas

According to the official classification, the landscape zone along the Margine di Momigno–Panicagliora road and the adjacent strip of land is considered to be of considerable public importance. In the Marliana area, the landscape is largely covered by dense chestnut forests; the hills frequently open out into gentle slopes with vineyards and olive groves. In July, Momigno hosts the street arts festival Medioevalia, with artisans, jesters, fire-eaters and theater actors performing at various locations around the town. The timing and decentralized format give the festival a distinctive character within the townscape. The Anello 2 – Sentiero della pietra loop trail is 20.6 kilometers long and has an elevation gain of 793 meters.
