Thermal waters, pools and the Crete Senesi
The Terme Antica Querciolaia has a thermal park covering more than 43,000 m², with six outdoor pools and two indoor pools. A thermal-water whirlpool and two Kneipp circuits complement the facilities. The thermal park of San Giovanni Terme Rapolano is set in a large green area overlooking the Crete Senesi. The size of the site and the distribution between indoor and outdoor pools also shape the practical planning of a thermal stay in Rapolano Terme.
Historic centre: Castellare, gate and Palazzo Pretorio
In the historic centre, the Castellare is the oldest part. Another notable building is the historic Porta dei Tintori gate, also called Porta a Siena. Both names refer to the same building. It bears the year 1307 as well as the coats of arms of Rapolano and Siena. Until 1862, the Palazzo Pretorio was the seat of the Podestà , Gonfaloniere and mayor.
Serre: Grancia, grain, wine and oil
In Serre, a district of Rapolano Terme, the Museo dell'Antica Grancia e dell'Olio di Serre documents the history of fortified agricultural complexes known as grance. The grance were complexes that had belonged to the Santa Maria della Scala Hospital in Siena since the 14th century. The Grancia di Serre was built in the 13th century and served as a local centre of agricultural production, a granary and a place for processing wine and oil. The Grancia thus brought together the production, storage and processing of agricultural products.
Surroundings: monasteries, ruin, castle and mountains
The surroundings of Rapolano Terme include Monistero d'Ombrone and San Salvatore a Fontebona; both are monasteries. Castello di Montelifrè, a ruin, is also located nearby. In the wider regional area are Castle of Brolio, a castle, and the mountains Monte Luco, Monte San Zio and Poggio Cerrete. Poggio del Sarto, also a mountain, is located near Rapolano Terme. The geographical references therefore extend from the immediate surroundings to the wider regional area.
Local traditions and Parco Avventura Saltalbero
Parco Avventura Saltalbero offers activities for children aged three to seven. A culinary tradition is the annual Sagra della panella e della focaccia rapolanese, also called Settembre rapolanese. It lasts from the last weekend in August until the first Sunday in September and includes a food stand. The event therefore spans the transition from August to September.
