Monte Vibiano Vecchio: Castle, Vineyards and Art

Monte Vibiano Vecchio combines a historic castle complex with wine production, rural landscapes and art. The complex includes, among other buildings, Palazzo Fasola Bologna, dating from the mid-13th century. The dating of the Palazzo to the mid-13th century thus stands alongside its present appearance, shaped by the architect Ugo Tarchi.

Castle, Gate and Historical Art

Monte Vibiano Vecchio is entered through a single gateway with a semicircular stone arch. The Vibi built this gate as they intended it to serve as a military base. The castle's present appearance was shaped by the architect Ugo Tarchi. Thus, medieval structural elements, a clearly defined entrance and later architectural design come together in one place.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta in Monte Vibiano Vecchio contains Gerardo Dottori's first mural, created in 1909. Villa Cesari Tiberi also contains a fresco by Gerardo Dottori that contrasts an industrial structure with a rural scene featuring a farmer. The church and Villa Cesari Tiberi therefore contain two different works by Gerardo Dottori.

Hilly Landscape and Wine Production

Monte Vibiano is located on a hill and is surrounded by olive trees, vineyards, centuries-old forests, rivers and streams. The character of the landscape thus ranges from cultivated areas to natural features. The Monte Vibiano vineyards cover 22 hectares of the 350-hectare estate. Wine production therefore stands alongside forests, rivers and streams as a clearly quantified part of Monte Vibiano's larger landscape.

Wine, Oil and Seasonal Experiences

The culinary offering combines wine with products from the surrounding area. The “Premium Tasting” pairs five selected wines with local products and Monte Vibiano EVO oil. Another offering includes a tasting of three representative wines with local products and Monte Vibiano EVO oil. The two tastings differ in the stated number of wines: five for the “Premium Tasting” and three for the other offering.

The seasonal picnic offering includes a individually assembled basket, wine and food; it is available from June through the end of October, from 12:00 to 14:30. For daily planning, the stated time window falls during lunchtime and is limited to these hours. Important for current planning: Monte Vibiano's terrace experiences have been temporarily suspended since January 1, 2026, to carry out modernization and redesign work.
