Hannibal and the History of the Lake

The nearby Documentation Centre on Hannibal and the Battle of Lake Trasimeno is located at Piazza Garibaldi 7. It covers the Punic Wars, the Battle of Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding area from historical, historiographical, iconographic and anthropological perspectives. The centre also has a specialised library and hosts conferences, workshops and other events.

The Documentation Centre is located in a pedestrian zone and offers a viewpoint accessible via a ramp, overlooking the lake. The route associated with the Battle of Lake Trasimeno currently has nine parking areas where various themes relating to the battle and the history of the localities are explored.

Art, Churches and Historic Paths

The nearby Campo del Sole consists of 27 sculptural columns arranged in a spiral. The nearby Pieve dei Confini is a church built in the early 12th century. It is named this way because it stands on the boundary between the dioceses of Perugia and Arezzo.

From the hamlet of Vernazzano, about 5 km from the centre, a 20-minute woodland path leads to the Leaning Tower of Vernazzano.
