Lerchi between Pilgrimage Route, Church and Landscape

Lerchi offers several ways to experience a journey through paths, sacred architecture, landscape and culture. Length, Duration and Surface

The Citerna–Città di Castello stage of the Via di Francesco pilgrimage route passes through the Lerchi section. This section is 19.3 kilometres long and takes an estimated 4.8 hours. The duration should be understood as a guideline, not as an exact time requirement. It can be walked in both directions and features gravel and asphalt surfaces. The choice of direction and the changing surfaces are therefore part of personal planning for the day. The stage also includes drinking water in Lerchi.

Between the Tiber Riverbank and the Hills of the Scarzola

The Giro dello Scarzola, which passes through Lerchi, offers a different perspective on the landscape. After an initial section along the left-bank embankment of the Tiber, the route continues over the hills above the Torrente Scarzola. On the Giro dello Scarzola, the route also leads from San Lorenzo down to the industrial area of Lerchi via a gravel road.

Chiesa di San Lorenzo and Corte Vecchia

Chiesa di San Lorenzo was built between the 11th and 12th centuries. It stands on a flattened hilltop approximately 80 metres above the village. The area around Chiesa di San Lorenzo was known as Corte Vecchia. A small settlement protected by the Torre Biturrita was located there. Its inhabitants later moved to the valley, causing the settlement to become deserted. The hilltop is therefore associated both with the church and with the former settlement, which was later abandoned.
