Tuoro sul Trasimeno is located in the area of the Parco regionale del Lago Trasimeno, a protected lake and hill landscape that also serves as a resting area for migratory birds. At Malpasso, a footbridge provides access to Lake Trasimene. Lido di Tuoro at Punta Navaccia has a beach and tourist facilities. Punta Macerone is considered the most important site of natural interest in the municipality.

History on Lake Trasimene

The Museo su Annibale e la Battaglia del Trasimeno explores the Punic Wars, the Battle of Lake Trasimene and the area where the events took place. The topics are examined from historical, historiographical, iconographic and anthropological perspectives; videos, panels, infographics, multimedia stations and 4D video reports make the presentation interactive. The Percorso della Battaglia del Trasimeno crosses the valley of Tuoro sul Trasimeno and passes all the sites associated with the battle. Some scholars interpret the ustrina found in the area as burial facilities that may have been used to cremate numerous fallen soldiers.

Towers, Churches and Art

The Torre pendente di Vernazzano is one of the ruins of the old castle of Vernazzano. It has an inclination of 13 degrees and is supported by tie rods. From the hamlet of Vernazzano, a path of around 20 minutes leads through the woods to the tower; Vernazzano is approximately 5 km from the centre. The Pieve dei Confini is an early Romanesque building from the 11th century that has largely been preserved despite extensive later alterations. Historically, it served travellers as a landmark and as a safe place to stay or stop. The apse of Santa Maria Maddalena contains a fresco from 1949 by the Futurist painter Gerardo Dottori. Palazzo del Capra, also known as Palazzo di Nardo, stands just outside the town centre in the direction of Sanguineto. According to local tradition, it was built over the mausoleum of the consul Gaius Flaminius; it also houses an important fresco by Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino. Campo del Sole forms a large spiral of 27 column sculptures made from local grey sandstone, known as “pietra serena”. The columns are approximately 4.5 metres high and lead to a central table bearing a sun symbol.

Hiking Trails, Cycle Route and Island

Hiking trail 28 reaches Cima di Tuoro or Gosparini and runs through wooded slopes, across a panoramic terrace and through pastureland with views of Lake Trasimene. The Vernazzano–Tuoro circular route connects the settlements of Vernazzano and Tuoro sul Trasimeno and passes the old castle with its Leaning Tower. The Ciclovia del Trasimeno runs through the Tuoro area; the Borghetto–Tuoro sul Trasimeno section ends at the car park at Punta Navaccia. One stage of the Via del Trasimeno also reaches Punta Navaccia, where hikers board a boat to continue to Isola Maggiore. The Museo del Merletto on Isola Maggiore can be reached by ferry from the Pontile di Tuoro sul Trasimeno.
