Foce between Pilgrimage, History and Hiking Trails

Foce focuses on religious history, medieval traces and paths through the landscape. The Santa Maria delle Grazie sanctuary in Foce was built to house a miraculous image of the Madonna and Child from the 15th century. The image is known as the Madonna delle Grazie. On 13 May 1629, it was ceremonially transferred to Foce. The sequence of the image, sanctuary and transfer gives the place a clearly tangible historical and spiritual connection.

Pilgrimage and Sacred History

At the Santa Maria delle Grazie sanctuary in Foce, the tradition of a pilgrimage for the sick is renewed on 8 September. 8 September is therefore a specific point of reference for visitors who wish to discover religious history not only through buildings, but also through a traditional pilgrimage custom handed down over time.

Church and Medieval Traces

The architectural and local history includes the Romanesque Church of San Gregorio in Foce, which was built in the 13th century. The Castle of Foce also leads into the medieval past: it was involved in the conflicts between Amelia, Narni and Todi over supremacy. Together, the church and castle offer different approaches to sacred architecture and the history of medieval power.
