Comelico Superiore between Cultural Heritage and Mountain Trails

Comelico Superiore can be discovered through its cultural sites, themed trails and mountain landscape. Dosoledo combines historic architecture with the Maskarada, celebrated every year, while trails between Dosoledo and Padola, as well as destinations in the surrounding area, reveal further facets of the region. Winter sports are also part of the region’s character.

Culture and History in Dosoledo

The Chiesa dei SS. Rocco e Osvaldo in Dosoledo is a neoclassical church. It was designed by Colusso and later by Giuseppe Segusini and contains valuable frescoes and altars.

The Palazzo Zandonella - Dall'Aquila in Dosoledo houses the Museo Algudnei. The palazzo itself is a 17th-century palace and was associated with a wealthy family involved in the timber trade.

In the area around Comèlico Superiore, Roggia dei Mulini is an ancient site. Batterie Corazzate di Col Vidal and Forte Alto di Col Vidal are fortifications in the area around Comèlico Superiore; Ex Ricovero Militare di Val Inferna is a ruin in the area around Comèlico Superiore.

A recurring event with strong local ties is the Maskarada in Dosoledo. It is celebrated every year on the Sunday closest to 9 February and is dedicated to the patron saint Sant’Apollonia.

Themed Trails and Outdoor Activities

There are four themed trails in Comèlico Superiore: Tròi dli mascri, Tròi dli Tradizion, Tròi di bacani and Tròi di mistieri. Wooden statues stand along the trails.

The Tròi di mestieri runs between Padola and Dosoledo. Its sculptures depict the work that shaped the valley.

Stage 4, “da S. Pietro a Padola”, of the Sentiero Frassati leads through Dosoledo and then reaches Padola. La Stua on the Torrente Padola is an artificial dam that made it possible to transport timber by floating it downstream. A mountain biking route starts there at an altitude of 1,215 metres.

From Comèlico Superiore, destinations including Valgrande, Alta Val Padola, Lago di Sant’Anna and trails to the Popèra can be reached. These destinations broaden the options for days when, in addition to local and cultural themes, you would like to focus on the surrounding mountain landscape.

Mountains and Winter Sports

The immediate surroundings of Comèlico Superiore include several elevations: Monte Aiarnola is a mountain, Cima d'Ambata is a summit, and Col Rosson is also a mountain. Cima Bagni is a mountain in the area around Comèlico Superiore.

For winter sports, Ski Area Val Comelico is part of Dolomiti Superski, a ski association with 115 kilometres of ski runs and 31 lifts. The ski runs of Padola reach an altitude of 2,000 metres at Col d’la Tenda and belong to the “Parco naturale UNESCO Dolomiti” route.
