Colderù: Fresco Trails, Church Art and Mountain Landscapes
Colderù between the Fresco Trail and Mountain Landscapes
Colderù combines religious trail culture, sacred art and a varied hiking landscape. A religious hiking trail in the Veneto region leads from the centre of Lentiai down through Colderù and Stabie along the Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati, before climbing again towards Ronchena. If you would like to get to know a place through specific routes and visible traces of its culture, this route provides a particularly vivid focal point.
Frescoes and the Church as a Common Thread
The Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati was created in 1995 along the old route connecting Lentiai with the hamlet of Colderù. Along the way are ten wayside shrines painted by ten contemporary artists. Their depictions have symbolic connections to local traditions and crafts, giving the route its own visual language.
The present-day Chiesa di San Giacomo in Colderù also bears traces of its long architectural development. Extensions, elevations and restorations carried out over the centuries can be seen on the church. The central fresco theme in the Chiesa di San Giacomo di Colderù depicts the life and miracle of Saint James the Greater according to the Legenda Aurea. Saint James is regarded as the patron saint of pilgrims and the patron saint of Colderù.
Hikes with Different Character
The hike „Le antiche vie dell’alpeggio da Colderù al Monte Garda“ is designed as a moderately difficult tour on paved roads, unpaved tracks and hiking trails. It is offered on request for groups of ten or more participants. As a circular route, it passes through forests between the Piave and Monte Garda and offers views of the Valbelluna and the Belluno Dolomites.
Another way to combine Colderù with its sacred buildings is the circular route „Giro delle chiesette e dei capitelli“. It leads to Colderù and to the small church dedicated to Saint James. This places both a themed art trail and hikes featuring forest, mountain and panoramic sections at the centre of the experience.
Community and a Special Time of Year
The Gruppo Giovani Colderù offers activities and community events for children and families throughout the year. During the Christmas season, Colderù is festively decorated with lights and handcrafted decorations made by local residents. Alongside the hiking trails and church, the community life is therefore also one of the visible aspects of the village.
