Danta: Peat Bogs, Paleontology and Churches

The Torbiere di Danta peat bogs are a particular highlight: a boardwalk branches out through the area’s three distinct peat bogs. It is initially flat and descends during the final section; the duration is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Museo Paleontologico “Le Radici della Vita” in Danta di Cadore displays paleontological finds from various continents. Churches in the Village and on the Hills

The present-day Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Rocco e Sebastiano was built in 1786 and expanded in 1938. The church also houses an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints Roch and Sebastian by Francesco Vecellio. Its construction history, location and furnishings make this sacred building a tangible part of the village landscape.

The Chiesa di Santa Barbara stands on the highest hill in Danta and offers views across the entire Val Comelico. It was built to protect the community from natural disasters.
