Malga Ciapela at the foot of the Marmolada

Malga Ciapela lies at an altitude of 1,450 meters at the foot of the Marmolada. The Marmolada – Move to the Top cable car starts in Malga Ciapela. If you choose accommodation here, you combine the location with access to a high-alpine mountain world and excursion destinations that can be reached on foot. Winter sports, landscapes and history offer different focuses for planning your trip.

By cable car to Punta Rocca

The cable car from Malga Ciapela, divided into three sections, leads to Punta Rocca at an altitude of 3,265 meters. From Malga Ciapela, the panoramic terrace at Punta Rocca can be reached in just a few minutes by the Marmolada – Move to the Top cable car. The cable car is also accessible to visitors with disabilities. This makes it possible to experience the difference in altitude between the village and the summit area in a unique way.

Skiing and other winter activities

The La Bellunese ski run starts at Punta Rocca, leads over the Passo Fedaia to Malga Ciapela and is 12 kilometers long. From Malga Ciapela, it is also possible to access the Arabba-Marmolada ski area, which has over 62 kilometers of ski runs and 27 lifts. Cross-country skiing is possible in Malga Ciapela as a winter activity. Snowshoe hikes are also possible in the Rocca Pietore area.

Mountain history at Serauta and the Marmolada

The Museo Marmolada Grande Guerra 3000 m is located at an altitude of 3,000 meters on the second floor of the Serauta cable car station. The 300-square-meter exhibition explores the lives of soldiers and the difficult conditions of warfare in the high mountains. The Fortilizio Italiano di Punta Serauta includes command posts, observation posts, positions, living quarters, barracks, trenches and communication trenches. At the lower end of the Serrai di Sottoguda, two galleries carved into the rock also commemorate the First World War: they were built at the time as storage facilities for ammunition and explosives.

Serrai di Sottoguda and tranquil landscapes

The Serrai di Sottoguda nature reserve stretches for approximately two kilometers between Sottoguda and Malga Ciapela at the foot of the Marmolada. Closed to traffic, the Serrai di Sottoguda offer a walk suitable for adults and children; in summer, they are ideal for peaceful family hikes. The small Chiesa di Sant'Antonio dei Serrai is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. Mass is celebrated there every year on June 13.

Excursions to the Valle Ombretta and Valle Franzedàz

The Valle Ombretta can be reached via an approximately one-and-a-half-hour walk through forests and high-altitude pastures. The Geographical Center of the UNESCO Dolomites is located there, and the valley is one of the recommended summer destinations for excursions from Malga Ciapela. The Valle Franzedàz can be reached from Malga Ciapela in about an hour on foot. In addition to cable-car and winter sports experiences, there are also trails through forests, pastures and protected landscapes to choose from.
