Discover Granze: Villas, Roman Traces and Exceptional Landscapes

Granze lies on the main road from Vescovana to Sant’Elena and from there onward to Este.

Villa Ca' Conti with Garden and Views of the Colli Euganei

Built in 1580, Villa Ca' Conti is a historic residence in Granze, in the landscape of the Bassa Padovana. It offers impressive views of the Colli Euganei. The English landscape park is designed with neoclassical statues, centuries-old trees and spacious green areas. This means that a visit to the villa cannot be limited to its interiors: the connection between the building and the garden is also part of its character.

Guided visits to Villa Ca' Conti are available by prior reservation. Visitors can see the frescoed interiors, the English landscape garden and the animals of the educational farm. Those interested in historic residences, garden art and the rural cultural landscape of the Bassa Padovana will find different aspects brought together in one place, without having to consider the individual elements separately.

Roman Land Surveying at the Museo della Centuriazione romana

The Museo della Centuriazione romana in Granze is part of the museum system of the Bassa Padovana. Exhibits include panels with aerial photographs, artefacts found on site and decussate boundary stones made of trachyte, connected with Roman land surveying. The central exhibit is a gromatic boundary stone made of trachyte with an engraved decussate cross; a wooden groma has been reconstructed on it.

This subject remains present in Granze beyond the museum as well. Traces of the Roman agricultural division into centuriae can still be seen in today’s maps. In this way, the landscape complements the museum objects: the museum displays panels, artefacts and boundary stones, while the historic division can also be found in the maps of the area.

Wet Woodland, Parks and the Regional Landscape

The Valle di Lavachi in Granze is a rare and one of the last examples of a wet woodland connected with the former marshy areas of the Bassa Padovana. In the wider regional surroundings of Granze there is also Monte Venda. The surrounding area includes Parco Alexander Langer, Parco Rosetta Pampanini and Parco Lisieux. These different landscape connections thus extend from the wet woodland in the town to the mountain in the wider regional surroundings.

Villas, Palaces and Museums in the Surrounding Area

The Villa Castello Miari de Cumani palace is located close to Granze. The surrounding area of Granze also includes the Museo Atestino museum and the Villa Contarini and Villa Nani Mocenigo palaces. These names broaden the cultural and historical context around Granze, without requiring a uniform architectural form or a common type of building.

Infiorata di Granze

During the Infiorata di Granze, a long path completely decorated with flower carpets runs through the municipal park beside the Chiesa di Santa Cristina. The flower carpets are created by local Infioratori and numerous volunteers. The event thus brings together a public place, floral design and communal work – a distinctive way of experiencing Granze that stands alongside the villa, museum and landscape.
