Vigonza combines historic architecture, sacred architectural heritage, cultural events and outdoor paths. Specific points of interest include historic villas, churches and the rural Borgo rurale di Vigonza, as well as the Teatro Comunale Quirino De Giorgio, the Quirino De Giorgio Archive and paths along the Tergola River.

Culture and Architecture in Vigonza

Villa Pavanello (Badoer and BoldĂą) is protected as a cultural heritage site in Peraga under Part II, Article 10, paragraph 3, and Article 13, paragraph 1, of Italian Legislative Decree No. 42 of 22 January 2004. The protection was established by D.D.R. of 9 March 2007. In 2007, the Quirino De Giorgio Archive was classified by the Archival Superintendency for Veneto as being of particularly high historical importance.

The parish church of Santa Margherita di Vigonza was demonstrably founded before the year 1136. Santa Margherita may already have been a monastic church, probably entrusted to the Augustinian Canons Regular of Porto.

Secular architecture also tells the story of different periods. Castello dei Da Peraga is located in a large green park. In 1520, Nicolò Barisoni transformed Villa Barisoni-Capodilista from old feudal structures into an elegant residence. This was accompanied by stylistic elements that preceded the architectural language codified by Andrea Palladio. As you walk through the Borgo rurale di Vigonza, you can see the houses, the theater, the threshing floor and the central fountain.

Events and Current Use

The Teatro Comunale Quirino De Giorgio hosts theater events, concerts, artistic performances and other events throughout the year. The old Church of Sant’Andrea Apostolo is now used for celebrations and special events.

Paths by the Water and Practical Information

The Tergola River crosses the Vigonza area and is connected to a renovated green space where you can explore paths on foot or by bicycle. The Vecchio Tunnel di Busa di Vigonza is closed to motorized traffic and accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists.

Access to the Quirino De Giorgio Archive for study and documentation purposes is possible only by appointment. Anyone including the archive in their study or documentation plans should therefore schedule the required appointment in Vigonza in advance as a separate item on their itinerary. For the center of Vigonza, the municipality provides a QR code through which you can listen to an audio guide about the urban design of the center.

Bigoli and Cuisine of the Padua Area

In the Padua area, bigoli, a rustic pasta similar to thick spaghetti, are among the typical recipes. They are often served with ragĂą made from hen, duck or sardines.
