Rosolina between lagoons, coast and Venetian history

Rosolina combines the landscape shaped by the Laguna di Caleri and the Valli da pesca with the coast of Rosolina Mare. Between lagoons, beaches, historic buildings and regional specialities, it offers a destination that appeals both to nature lovers and those interested in culture and discovering local products.

Lagoon landscapes and nature experiences

One particularly characteristic feature is the Giardino Botanico di Porto Caleri in the southern part of the Rosolina Mare coast. The botanical garden covers around 44 hectares and serves to preserve a unique natural landscape of considerable scientific interest. Those who want to experience the various habitats at close hand can explore them along three different routes.

Since 1992, a designated path in the Giardino Botanico di Porto Caleri has led through the brackish-water habitats near the Laguna di Caleri. The paths allow visitors to experience the different landscape areas as distinct components of the coast. The Via delle Valli Nord also illustrates the connection between bodies of water and vegetation: it runs alongside fish-farming areas and the lagoon, through holm-oak and pine forests. An optional detour leads to the mouth of the Adige.

Valle Sagraeda is also located along the Via delle Valli Nord. Visitors can observe one of the largest flamingo colonies in the Po Delta there. This gives the landscape, in addition to its quiet character shaped by lagoons and valli, a particular significance for wildlife observation. The natural attractions around Rosolina are therefore an important part of trip planning if you do not want to limit coastal landscapes to the beach.

Beach and water on the coast of Rosolina Mare

Rosolina Mare has a nine-kilometre beach between the Adriatic Sea and the northern lagoons of the Po Delta. This location places the seaside resort within a broader landscape context: beyond the open sea, there is not simply developed hinterland, but a succession of beaches, lagoons and wetlands. Rosolina Mare also has a tourist landing place at Porto Fossone.

Venetian traces and historic buildings

History is also present in the townscape through several tangible testimonies. The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio in Rosolina was built in the 17th century. The Casone di valle Venier is a rural residential building distinguished by its enormous fireplace. The two buildings represent different aspects of the region's past: a religious building on the one hand, and a rural building type with a striking architectural feature on the other.

Rosolina is also home to the Venetian oratory of the former Valle Moceniga. In 1789, a church dedicated to the Immacolata Concezione was built on the estate of the Venetian patrician Mocenigo family. The course of the ancient Via Popillia also bears witness to the town's old origins. These historical traces give Rosolina a sense of depth in time that extends beyond today's coastal landscape.

Products from the lagoon and Po Delta

The local character also reflects the connection between agriculture and lagoon culture. Rosolina is one of the municipalities with the most important growing areas for Radicchio di Chioggia IGP in the Po Delta. In the lagoons of the municipalities of Rosolina, Porto Viro and Porto Tolle, Vongole veraci are farmed across a total area of around 5,300 hectares within the Parco del Delta del Po. Radicchio and clams thus represent two different landscapes that complement the region's character, spanning cultivated areas, the river delta and lagoons.
