Dosson combines a strong radicchio tradition with Venetian architecture, Roman finds and a history dating back to 790.
Radicchio Tradition and Festa del Radicchio Rosso
For more than a century, Dosson has been regarded as the birthplace of Treviso red radicchio. The Festa del Radicchio Rosso was held for the first time in Dosson in January 1987. In 2026, the Festa del radicchio rosso tardivo in Dosson reached its 39th edition. For those interested in regional cuisine, Treviso radicchio is Dosson’s specific culinary connection. The first festival date in January also provides a winter reference point within this tradition.
Early Local History: Agriculture and Brickmaking
The area of Dosson was already inhabited and used for agriculture in 790. At that time, it also had a brickworks for producing bricks. A continuous use through to the present day cannot be inferred from this historical classification. Alongside residential life and agriculture, brickmaking is therefore also part of the early history of the Dosson area.
Villa in Le Grazie and Museum in the West Portico
A Venetian villa dating from the 18th century stands in the village of Le Grazie in Dosson. It belongs to the Venetian noble Contarini family. Its features include valuable frescoes and marble sculptures. Today, the west portico of Villa Reali, Canossa houses an archaeological museum. It contains Roman finds from the excavations at Altino. Those interested in culture can focus their attention on the villa and the archaeological museum without treating the two sites as the same building.
Cultural Destinations Near Dosson
The Palazzo dei Trecento is located near Dosson. The Musei Civici di Treviso museum is also nearby. The historic sites Walls and La Bellissima Treviso are additional destinations. The nearby area thus remains distinct from the wider regional surroundings.
Beach, Mountain and Islands in the Wider Regional Area
The beach Spiaggia Lungomare d'Annunzio, the mountain Colesel Val dell'Acqua, the island of Carbonera and the island of Isola dei Laghi are located in the wider regional area around Dosson. The geographical scale here is broader than that of the destinations in the nearby area. This makes it possible to consider coastal, mountain and island connections separately for regional planning.
