Montebelluna brings together natural history, archaeology, church art, commercial history and the memory of the conflicts of the 20th century. Anyone who wants to get to know a place through tangible evidence will find a range of ways to explore it here: from a museum and a historically significant church to traces of military infrastructure and regional agriculture.

Museums of Archaeology and Natural History

At the Museo di Storia Naturale e Archeologia di Montebelluna, the archaeological collections span the period from prehistory to the Roman imperial era. The museum also documents 90 percent of Veneto’s freshwater fish fauna, providing valuable documentation of the region’s fish population.

In the Sala Astronomia museum section of the Museo di Storia Naturale e Archeologia di Montebelluna, an interactive helioplanetarium depicts the inner solar system, including Earth, Venus and Mercury, to scale.

Commemorative Culture and Sports History

The MeVe Memoriale Veneto della Grande Guerra is located in Montebelluna (TV), in the Villa Correr Pisani complex. Villa Correr Pisani later became the seat of the Memoriale Veneto della Grande Guerra. MeVe is an interactive and multimedia venue dedicated to the conflicts and events that have shaped recent history since the First World War.

Digital elements, immersive installations, video documentation and sound design define the Memoriale’s presentation. Another historical focus can be found at the Museo della Fondazione Sportsystem: the district museum was founded in 1984 and completely renovated in 2024 to mark its 40th anniversary.

Church Art and Medieval Commercial History

The Chiesa di Santa Maria in Colle was Montebelluna’s religious center until the mid-20th century. Its importance as a parish church dates back to the mid-14th century. The church preserves a ceiling decorated with a fresco by Francesco Fontebasso, 17th-century altars, a wooden choir dating from 1679 and a double organ designed by Gaetano Callido.

Montebelluna’s Mercato Vecchio dates back to the 1157 diploma in which Frederick Barbarossa confirmed to Bishop Ulrich the toll on goods intended for consumption in Montebelluna Castle. The Mercato Vecchio later became an important commercial crossroads in an area extending from Feltre to Treviso.

Military Traces and Regional Products

The Fontana Militare was built by the Genio Militare. It was used to water the troops and draft animals deployed to supply the Montello Front, particularly during the Battle of Solstizio between 15 and 23 June 1918. La Tradotta is based on the former Montebelluna–Susegana railway line, which was built for military purposes.

Another side of the area can be discovered at S’Infiora Fattoria Bio in Biadene di Montebelluna. There you will find a farm shop selling its own honey. This includes single-variety acacia honey produced in May in the acacia woods of Montello. When planning your trip, you can therefore focus on different themes: museums and astronomy, church art and commercial history, military history or regional products.
