Pagnano d’Asolo: History, Trails and Landscape

Pagnano d’Asolo can be explored through its prehistoric traces, historic buildings, trails and landscapes along the Muson dei Sassi. History in several places

Pagnano d’Asolo is one of the places in the Asolo area with the oldest known settlement traces from prehistoric times to date. Mammoth remains were found at Ponte di Pagnano, at the confluence of the Erega and Muson streams. In the historic center of Pagnano d’Asolo stands Villa Filippin Zambaldi, which dates from the mid-18th century. The Maglio di Pagnano complex is located in Pagnano at the foot of the Asolo hill and comprises a forge, a rear service building and a residential building.

The religious buildings also preserve their own historical connections. The Chiesa di San Gregorio was a historic meeting place of the “Uomini de Comun”, who administered Pagnano during the tenure of Asolo’s podestà. In the Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano in Pagnano d’Asolo, Noè Bordignon painted a fresco in 1874 dedicated to the holy physicians and the Resurrection of the Flesh. During restoration work in the Chiesa di Pagnano d’Asolo, two graves were discovered beneath the floor in 1961. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista in Pagnano has a viewpoint.

Trails between the village and the surrounding area

The Sentiero degli Ezzelini can be accessed via the car park opposite the Maglio di Pagnano. At the Maglio di Pagnano, the Sentiero degli Ezzelini connects with the Sentiero del Lastego. A circular hike along the Sentiero degli Ezzelini leads to the Chiesa di San Giovanni and the Maglio di Pagnano d’Asolo. The trail passes through changing natural environments between the plain, hills and Alpine foothills. In addition, after leaving Asolo, the Ciclovia di Sant’Antonio follows the BI12 to Ponte di Pagnano.

Mountains, water and wildlife

The mountains Monte Pallone, Monte Palla, Monte Grappa and Monte Solarolo are located around Pagnano. The area around the Muson dei Sassi is considered favorable for little egrets and grey herons because it offers shallow water, small fish and calm conditions. Thus, in addition to historic sites, landscapes and birdwatching are also among the topics you can consider when exploring the area.

Museums in the surrounding area

There are four museums in the area around Pagnano: the Museo dell’Automobile “Bonfanti-VIMAR”, the Tipoteca Museo, the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale and the Museo del '900 e della Grande Guerra.
