Bavaria combines a clearly defined place of remembrance with a walk on the Montello.

Places of Remembrance and Sacred History

The Cippo a Mario Fiore stands in Bavaria at exactly the spot where Mario Fiore fell. The Monumento ai Caduti complements this place of remembrance: its foundation stone was laid in 1925, and the mortal remains of 35 soldiers from the First and Second World Wars rest inside it. The Monumento ai Caduti was also built on the remains of a 17th-century church dedicated to Saint Mauro.

The Chiesa di Sant'Urbano Papa e Martire has been documented in Bavaria since 1593. After suffering war damage, it was completely rebuilt between 1922 and 1923. Its main altar was partly made from old material recovered from the ruins of the Certosa. This combination of a long documented history, reconstruction and reused material makes the Chiesa a distinct historical focal point alongside the monuments.

The History of Resistance in Bavaria

The political history of the resistance is also connected with the church. A meeting to organise scattered officers and soldiers took place in the Chiesa di Sant'Urbano Papa e Martire; representatives of the anti-fascist parties at provincial level also took part. This meeting marked the beginning of the activities of the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale of the Province of Treviso.

The Montello as a Walking Destination

The resistance-history dual route from the Montello to Monte Grappa continues via Nervesa della Battaglia into the Bavaria district. Bavaria therefore appears not only as the setting for individual places of remembrance, but also as part of a historically significant route that you can incorporate into your travel planning.

The route to Busa delle Rane, Valle delle Tre Fonti and Grotta di San Girolamo remains a separate itinerary from the places of remembrance in Bavaria.

Walk to Three Landscape Sites

A separate walk to Busa delle Rane and Valle delle Tre Fonti starts in Bavaria at the car parks at the end of Via Genio Zappatori. The route is approximately 7 km long and takes about 2.5 hours. These approximate figures refer exclusively to the walk to Busa delle Rane and Valle delle Tre Fonti; the additional Grotta di San Girolamo is not included in this distance and time estimate. The approximate duration is suitable as a flexible time frame and does not require planning down to the minute. On the Montello, the walk visits Busa delle Rane, Valle delle Tre Fonti and Grotta di San Girolamo. This allows the route to be treated as a separate itinerary without equating the historical stops with the landscape experience.
