Noventa di Piave between Church Art and the Piave Landscape

Noventa di Piave combines sacred art, archaeological traces, and trails through the landscape along the lower Piave. Archaeological Traces and Church Art

The history of the town reaches back through several eras at the former Church of San Mauro Martire. Excavations carried out there between 1979 and 1981 uncovered a Roman, medieval, and Renaissance complex. This site is therefore particularly interesting if you would like to explore historical layers not only through individual buildings, but also through their chronological sequence.

The present-day Parrocchia di San Mauro Martire was completed in 1923 based on a design by Professor Possamai and architect Rupolo. The church houses a fresco by Tiburzio Donadon depicting the Triumph of the Immaculate among angels and the four Evangelists. It also preserves a processional cross from the late 14th century, regarded as one of the most significant art treasures in Veneto.

Exploring the Piave

The Parco Fluviale is located on the site of the ancient river port of Noventa di Piave. From the town center, you can reach the park through an underpass in the embankment, locally known as the "Tunnel".

The Centro Didattico Naturalistico Il Pendolino also offers different ways to engage with the river landscape. It features a guided tour of the diorama hall dedicated to waterways, along with related laboratory activities. Alternatively, you can follow a route through the landscape along the lower Piave.

For a shorter walk, Il Pendolino offers the "Sentiero natura". The trail provides an approximately 2 km route between agricultural areas and the Piave River. Its approximate length makes it a manageable way to experience the transition between an agricultural environment and the river landscape.

Cyclists and pedestrians can also use the "Percorso BIM Basso Piave" for leisure activities. The cycling and walking route follows the lower Piave and passes through Noventa di Piave, Fossalta di Piave, Musile di Piave, San Donà di Piave, Jesolo, and Eraclea. This allows you to experience the river landscape not only on a short walk, but also as part of a longer regional connection.

Villa Ancillotto, a historic site, can be found near Noventa di Piave. The Pinacoteca "A. Martini", a museum, is also located nearby. Both destinations complement the town’s cultural focus without requiring you to lose sight of Noventa di Piave’s sacred art and archaeological traces.
