Between Canals and Regional History

San Giorgio di Livenza can be explored through waterways, paths and buildings from different periods. The Livenza Morta Canal crosses the town to the west. On the Brian Canal, the Chapel of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Valle Tagli stands amid the greenery beside the canal. The section of the Livenza Morta Canal from San Giorgio di Livenza (La Salute) to the village of Brian is also among Caorle’s fishing waters.

Church, Lapidarium and Chapel

The history of the parish church is closely linked to the changes made to the canals. The former 18th-century church was demolished in 1926 to raise the right bank of the Brian Canal and protect the reclaimed land. The new parish church of San Giorgio di Livenza was opened for worship on 29 September 1929. On 30 September 1934, it was consecrated by Bishop E. Beccegato. The parish church’s lapidarium preserves finely worked stone fragments from the former 18th-century church.

Another historic site is the Chapel of Santa Maria degli Angeli. It was built around 1940 on the commission of Giorgio and Carlotta Romiati. Inside, artistic motifs from the Basilica of Assisi were incorporated. Cycle Paths and a Pilgrimage Stage

The Cammino della Luce pilgrimage route includes a 17-kilometre stage lasting five hours from Concordia Sagittaria to San Giorgio di Livenza. Cycle Route 9, “Dal mare alle valli”, crosses San Giorgio di Livenza along a cycle path to the Brian Canal and then continues via Via Bonotto, offering views of the river landscape. This cycle route is rated easy and takes three hours.

The “Lungo il fiume Livenza” cycle tour is 31 kilometres long, rated easy and runs on asphalt, gravel and unpaved paths. It reaches San Giorgio di Livenza via Via Brian. Beaches and Museums in the Surrounding Area

The beaches of Spiaggia di Porto Santa Margherita, Spiaggia di Caorle, Spiaggia di Levante and Spiaggia di Duna Verde are located around San Giorgio di Livenza. Several museums are also nearby for cultural excursions: the Museo Nazionale Concordiese and the Museo Paleontologico “m. Gortani”. “Settembre Sangiorgese” is the name of the village festival of San Giorgio di Livenza, which takes place over the first three weekends of September. This event, firmly rooted in the annual calendar, adds another way to experience the town alongside its canals, cycle paths and historic buildings, through its village festivities.
