Mira on the Brenta: Venetian villas and waterside paths

Mira combines waterways, Venetian architecture and walking opportunities with museums, parks and historic sites. Mira Taglio in particular displays this character directly: numerous villas line the canal there, with historic terraced houses in between. A commemorative plaque on the façade of Foscarini dei Carmini recalls that the English poet George Byron spent long periods there between 1817 and 1819.

Villas, museums and historical traces

Villa Venier Contarini is a Venetian villa that the Venier family had built on the left bank of the Brenta towards the end of the 16th century. On the historic circular route through Mira Taglio, which runs along the canal, you come across Villa Corner on the right-hand side in the direction of Padua. The Ecomuseo le Terre del Brenta is a museum in the immediate vicinity of Mira Taglio. The Museum Villa Foscarini Rossi is also located in the vicinity of Mira Taglio, while Forte Gazzera can be found there as a fortress. The Scuola di San Rocco Museum lies in the wider surrounding region of Mira Taglio.

Walk along the Naviglio del Brenta

The walking path along the Naviglio del Brenta begins in the centre of Mira and leads via Via Nazionale to the Riviera S. Trentin. The path then follows the Brenta to the Piazzetta di Mira Porte. It crosses a pedestrian bridge and returns to Mira along the opposite bank of the Brenta. This creates a clear succession of canal, riverbank, bridge and the places along the route for your planning purposes.

Parks and practical orientation

The park of Villa Levi Morenos is open to the public and is open daily from 8:00 to 20:00 from April to September and from 8:00 to 17:00 from October to March. Parco di via Pertini is located in the immediate vicinity of Mira Taglio. The parks Parco Rabin and Parco via Kennedy are located in the vicinity of Mira Taglio. The lock at Mira Porte can be clearly seen from the permanent bridge over the Brenta.

Destinations in the wider surrounding region

Villa Seriman, Foscari, Widmann-Rezzonico can be reached by bus between Venice and Padua. Spiaggia Lungomare d'Annunzio beach lies in the wider surrounding region of Mira Taglio. Together with the villas, museums and paths along the Brenta, this creates a destination where historical impressions, walks and more broadly defined excursion destinations can be combined without reducing Mira to just one attraction.

When choosing a hotel in Mira, you can therefore take the focus of your trip into account: walking paths along the Brenta, Venetian villas, museums, parks or destinations in the wider surrounding region offer different points of connection for your days there.
