Calmasino between Vineyards and Lake Garda Panorama

Calmasino combines vineyards, olive groves and cultural details with paths through the surrounding area. From the hills of Calmasino, there is a panorama of Lake Garda and its lakeside landscape. The “Calmasino e vigneti” circular route leads through vineyards and olive groves and offers numerous viewpoints over Lake Garda.

Circular Routes for Walking and Cycling

The “Calmasino e vigneti” circular route starts at the Piazza del Combattimento car park in Calmasino. At 11 kilometres in length, it has a low difficulty level and takes approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes on foot.

For cycling, the “Giro dei vigneti” cycling tour is available. It can be undertaken by bicycle or e-bike and leads through Calmasino. The tour is 20 kilometres long, also has a low difficulty level and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. In Calmasino, the two routes offer a choice between the shorter “Calmasino e vigneti” circular route and the longer “Giro dei vigneti” cycling tour.

Churches and Art in the Surrounding Area

The churches of Calmasino also have their own distinctive features. The “Calmasino e vigneti” circular route includes the Chiesa di San Francesco, also known as Chiesa di Palù, which dates from the 16th century. In the Chiesa di San Michele, the right wing contains a chapel dedicated to Sant’Anna. The vault of the nave also contains two large oval paintings depicting Saint Michael striking down and chaining the rebellious angels. In this way, one route combines landscape impressions with identifiable religious and artistic details. A virtual tour also makes it possible to view existing works of art and historical information and to have them narrated on site as an audio guide.

In the immediate vicinity of Calmasino is the Museo dell'olio, a museum. The area also includes Parco Natura Viva zoo, Castello Scaligero as a castle and the Area archeologica delle Grotte di Catullo as an archaeological site. These different destinations expand the possible daily itinerary with museum, wildlife park, castle and archaeology themes, without belonging to the same local category.

Olive Oil and Excursions in the Wider Area

Calmasino lies within the production area of olive oil with the protected designation of origin “Garda” and the additional geographical indication “Orientale”. This additional indication is reserved for extra virgin olive oil.

In the wider regional surroundings of Calmasino are the Parco delle Cascate waterfall, the Punta di Naole summit and the Isola di Garda island. These different destinations expand the possible daily itinerary with waterfall, summit and island themes.
