Castello combines striking geology with sacred art, historic buildings and views across the landscape. The Basalti Colonnari are hexagonal prismatic formations created by the cooling and contraction of lava flows. Church Art and Fortified History

The parish museum is located on the north side of the church. It contains valuable paintings as well as various liturgical and religious objects that convey the history of the area. The tour ends at the visible foundations of the keep, which was later converted into the bell tower. The central vault also features the fresco “Gloria di San Giovanni Battista”, created in 1943 by the Verona-born painter Dino Menato.

The present-day Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista detta il Castello stands in the Castello district on the site of a medieval castle. Together with its bell tower, it was built between 1808 and 1812. Another historical layer is Bunker 44: it consists of underground rooms 14 metres below the floor level of the church above and is connected by four side exits. The bunker was built between April and November 1944 by workers from the Organisation Todt.

The upper level of the bell tower offers 360-degree panoramic views over the valley below. The Chiesa di San Zeno houses a stone statue of Saint Zeno dating from 1442. The church features Romanesque architectural elements, including a bell tower with biforate windows, a gabled roof and round arches.

Local Festivals in the Località Castello

The festivals also reflect the character of the area. The Sagra di San Zeno is held on the second Sunday after Easter at the 13th-century Romanesque church in the Località Castello and includes local cuisine. The Sagra di San Giovanni Battista is held on the last Sunday in June in the Località Castello and includes music, local cuisine and a cherry market.
