Vigasio between Culture and Wetland Landscapes

Vigasio combines traces of cultural history with a water-shaped landscape and a festival culture that also showcases culinary traditions. For you, the historical introduction begins with the Church of San Zeno di Vigasio: its first documented mention dates back to 1004. Another link to cultural history is Italo Montemezzi, who was born in Vigasio (Verona) on 4 August 1875.

Sacred Art and Historical Architectural Forms

The Santuario Madonna di Campagnamagra preserves a 15th-century fresco depicting the Madonna and Child, John the Baptist and Saint Christopher. Every year on 8 September, the Santuario celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of Mary. Villa Portalupi, Farina, also known as “La Zambonina”, dates back to the 16th century. Its façade features Baroque-style elements and three loggias; in the left-hand loggia, a fresco depicts the “monda”.

Fontanili di Povegliano and Ecological Corridors

The protected area SIC/ZPS IT3210008 “Fontanili di Povegliano” is located within the municipality of Vigasio. At the northwestern edge of Vigasio, this area is crossed by the Tartaro River and lies between the Tartarello River and the Fossa Liona. In the eastern part of the municipality, an ecological corridor runs around the Fosse Solarina and Graicella. It begins at the springs rising there and connects southeast of the town centre with the Tartaro corridor. The rivers and springs give the landscape a clear geographical structure.

Polenta, Music and Events

At the Fiera della Polenta, polenta is served daily in a wide variety of versions and combinations, including with Sopressa, mushrooms and Gorgonzola, as well as with Baccalà alla vicentina. The programme also includes theatre performances and live concerts in a heated marquee at the sports facilities. Vintage cars and historic tractors are also brought together there. The Fiera della Polenta thus combines different interests: it brings culinary specialities, stage performances and historic vehicles together within one event setting.
