Cazzano di Tramigna: Springs, Churches and Mountain Peaks

In Cazzano di Tramigna, nature, sacred history, mountain peaks and regional festival traditions come together. At the centre is Lago della Mora; churches and chapels mark other points in the surrounding area, while mountain peaks, an ancient site, a castle, a viewpoint, a museum and a palace can also be found in the vicinity or in the wider regional area.

Springs and paths

Lago della Mora, also known as Fontana, lies in the centre of Cazzano di Tramigna. It is a natural spring. A steel footbridge structure runs at water level and allows visitors to walk along the lake. The walk along the lake is therefore directly connected to the spring and the structure at water level.

The proposed circular route “Storia e cultura in Val Tramigna” begins at the springs of the Tramigna.

Chapels and churches with a long history

San Pietro in Briano is a single-nave chapel with an apse on a hill surrounded by an olive grove. The chapel has numerous 14th-century frescoes. They are located both on the exterior wall and inside the chapel. The hilltop location of San Pietro in Briano differs from the central location of Lago della Mora.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire in Cazzano di Tramigna was first mentioned in a document from 920, then in a will from 1004 and in a papal document from 1445. The Chiesa di San Felice also dates far back into the past. It was built between the 9th and 10th centuries.
