Discover Corbiolo: Trails, Panoramic Views and Local Culture

Corbiolo combines scenic trails with a multifaceted local history and vibrant cultural traditions. The town offers a 6.1-kilometre hiking trail, additional routes, far-reaching panoramic views, as well as buildings and details of folk art. This picture is complemented by local dishes, theatre and traditional festivals.

Hiking Routes Between the Centre and the Contrade

Hiking trail No. 8, which is 6.1 kilometres long, starts in the centre of Corbiolo. It then passes through Contrada Vurmi, Contrada Campi, Contrada Lechele and Contrada Selichi, as well as Località Talin and Colitele, before returning to the centre of Corbiolo.

The green Route No. 9 runs from Corbiolo via Contrada Grobbe, Contrada Regno, Contrada Albare and Località Costa back to Corbiolo. The CAI Route 252, Dorsale bassa della Lessinia, reaches Corbiolo from Contrada Grobbe and then continues through the town to Baito della Chiusa, Valbo and Contrada Morandin.

The 8.5-kilometre red Route No. 10 also begins in the centre of Corbiolo and runs via Contrada Costa, Contrada Italiani, Località Gianders, Monte della Croce and Contrada Thiene.

Panoramic Views over the Lessini Mountains, the Po Valley and Lake Garda

From Corbiolo, the panoramic view extends northwards over Bosco Chiesanuova and the peaks of the Lessini Mountains to Monte Carega. To the south, the view opens out over Verona and the Po Valley as far as the Apennines. To the west, it reaches Lake Garda and the mountain range of Monte Baldo.

Historical Traces and Local Folk Art

Corbiolo has been mentioned in written records since the beginning of the 13th century. In 1219, people were already living in the area around Corbiolo, before the immigration of Bavarian-Tyrolean settlers generally known as Cimbri. The history of the town therefore goes back further than the more recent buildings that now provide individual cultural highlights.

The church of Corbiolo was built during the Second World War over a period of two years, from 1941 to 1943. In Contrada Costa, a typical frescoed niche is dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great; it is regarded as a symbol of local folk art. In 1999, a central mosaic depicting the church in a boat was installed in the parish church of Corbiolo.

A rectangular building erected in 1889, with a stone roof sloping in two directions, has the interior layout typical of the baiti of the contrade in Lessinia. The two rooms are called “logo del late” and “logo del fogo”. The building was restored by the Pro Loco, is open to visitors and contains old tools for traditional milk processing.

Local Cuisine and Festivals

At Villaggio Termine, Ristorante Veneranda serves typical local dishes. These include dishes with black truffles from Lessinia, gnocchi di malga and main courses made with Scottona beef raised in Lessinia. This selection combines regional produce with dishes that are firmly rooted in the local cuisine.

The Feast of Maria Ausiliatrice is traditionally celebrated in Corbiolo on a Sunday with a sagra. During the celebration, the statue of Maria Auxiliatrix is carried in a procession through the town’s streets from the parish church. In summer 2024, there was also a theatre series at the “La Rondinella” cinema-theatre, featuring the local ensembles “Corbiolo Teatro” and “Corbiolo Teatro Giovani”, as well as other groups from the Province of Verona.

On 11 August 2019, the Festa degli Aquiloni took place at Dosso di Corbiolo. Visitors could build and fly kites. There were also inflatable games for children, free horse rides, food stalls serving typical local dishes and live music in the evening.
