Poiano between the Valley and Hills

Poiano is located on the western side of the Valpantena Valley. Around the village, the Sentiero n. 263A and the Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani” pass through different sections of the landscape. The village, the flat valley area and the hilly landscape are clearly reflected along these routes. When planning a day around Poiano, you can consider the flat Valpantena area and the ascent to the Torricelle as separate landscape sections. The choice between the two routes depends on whether the focus should be on a path through the forest or through the flat valley area.

Hiking between Poiano and the Torricelle

The Sentiero n. 263A connects the village of Poiano with the Strada delle Torricelle and, together with connecting trail sections, allows for a short circular hike between Poiano and the Torricelle. The trail climbs steeply through the forest and reaches the Strada delle Torricelle near Villa Forti. If you plan this loop, you should consider the steep forest ascent a defining part of the route. For a short loop, the steep ascent is therefore a physically demanding section, while the transition near Villa Forti marks the changeover to the Strada delle Torricelle.

The Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani” also passes through Poiano between Parona and Montorio. After Poiano, it crosses the flat Valpantena area before returning to the hilly landscape between Novaglie and Montorio. If you include this ridge route in your plans, you can consider the flat Valpantena and the later hilly landscape as two different trail sections. Unlike the Sentiero n. 263A, the focus here is not on the steep forest ascent but on the transition between the valley area and the hills.

Church and Historic Architecture

The Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo Apostoli is located in Loc. Poiano, via Abate Caliari 26, Verona. Visiting hours are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, as well as during the European Heritage Days and at national or local events such as the patron saint’s festival. For day planning, the church visit is limited to the morning period from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Villa Polfranceschi also represents a specific historical facet. It preserves the floor plan of a 16th-century building. Careful restoration reinstated its original materials. The villa’s large garden provides a setting for outdoor aperitifs.
