On the Asiago Plateau, nature combines with culture and outdoor activities. An astronomical observatory, natural history and historical museums, and trails through forests and pastures offer different focal points for a trip tailored to your interests.

Astronomy, Art and Natural History

A distinctive feature is the Cima Ekar Observatory. It is operated by INAF’s Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova and has the 1.82-metre Copernico telescope and a fully robotic Schmidt 67/92 wide-field telescope.

The culture of Asiago also includes the Museo Le Carceri. The former prison of Asiago now houses this museum, which regularly presents themed exhibitions on the art, history and traditions of the Asiago Plateau. The Museo Naturalistico di Asiago preserves and displays natural history specimens from the plateau area. It also carries out educational, outreach and research activities.

A small museum is located near the entrance to the ossuary crypt. It displays various war relics collected from the plateau’s battlefields, as well as historical documents and photographs.

Forests, Pastures and an Easy Circular Trail

The Sentiero del Maestro Patrizio offers a particularly well-defined nature experience. This easy circular trail is approximately 3.7 kilometres long, features gentle climbs, passes through beech forests, spruce forests, pastures and alpine ponds, and is suitable for families. The approximate 3.7-kilometre distance and the trail’s gentle climbs provide two clear parameters for planning your day. They can be balanced with your own walking pace and planned breaks.

Trails for Different Travel Plans

The Contrada Ave – Prunno – Asiago circular trail can be explored on foot, by mountain bike, on horseback or with snowshoes. It is suitable for tourists staying in the main town on the plateau. The S. Carlo votive chapel can be reached from the town centre in just a few minutes on foot.

Families will find a family-oriented nature attraction at Villaggio degli Gnomi, in a forest near the centre of Asiago. Small houses hidden among trees and rocks define the site. The Villaggio degli Gnomi trail passes through green meadows, old forests and historic tunnels and serves as an educational tour of the world of gnomes and the forest.
