Radi: Route alignments, Nogarole and the culture of Chiampo
Radi between route alignments, Nogarole, parish life and local festivals
Radi has traditionally been connected with Nogarole through parish life and local festivals. At the same time, several routes lead to or pass through the Contrada Radi. This means that you encounter different ways of experiencing the landscape here: on an uphill forest path, along paths through meadows or on a mountain-bike downhill trail. The different trail surfaces and the uphill section should therefore be taken into account when planning a hike or bike ride locally.
Hiking and cycling at Contrada Radi via Via Radi
The Itinerario tra le colline della Valle del Chiampo verso Nogarole leads uphill along a forest path to the Contrada Radi. Another route, the Nogarole Trail – Valle del Tinazzo, reaches the Contrada Radi after a turn in the forest beyond Via Radi. From there, the route continues along an unpaved gravel road through meadows and then follows the path onward. The mountain-bike downhill trail Nogarole Trail – Valle del Tinazzo runs along Via Radi and through the Contrada Radi. When choosing a route, the uphill forest path, the turn beyond Via Radi and the unpaved section through the meadows can be considered as separate trail features.
Spiritual sites in Chiampo: Via Crucis, grotto and sanctuary
The Via Crucis of Chiampo is a spiritual Way of the Cross with several stations and life-size bronze statues. The religious character of the area also includes the Grotto of Chiampo, which was inaugurated on September 29, 1935. It is a faithful copy of the Lourdes Grotto in the French Pyrenees. The tomb of Blessed Claudio is located at the foot of the Grotto of Chiampo. Along Viale dell’Incoronata, the Sanctuary of Chiampo has a picnic area. The Franciscan community began its presence in the Pieve of Chiampo in 1867.
Pieve, art, Baroque altar and Chiampo marble
The Pieve of Chiampo was established before the year 1000 and was the starting point for the evangelization of Valchiampo. Inside the Pieve is a painted marble statue of the Madonna and Child dating from 1480. It also has a Baroque altar dating from 1743. The Museum of Chiampo offers another way to discover the local culture: its collection displays panels made from 74 types of Chiampo marble.
The spiritual Cammino del Beato Claudio between Santa Lucia di Piave and Chiampo
The Cammino del Beato Claudio connects Santa Lucia di Piave with Chiampo over a distance of 189 kilometers. The spiritual and cultural route follows secondary roads through several municipalities and can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Its length, the secondary roads and the means of transport are separate factors to consider when planning the Cammino. Its route along secondary roads therefore differs from the various forest, meadow and unpaved gravel sections at the Contrada Radi.
