Gallio Among Trails, Landscapes and Mountain Culture

Gallio reveals itself through e-bike experiences, forest trails, historic traces and alpine landscapes. At Le Melette, four guided e-bike experiences start at the E-Bike Welcome Desk in Località Melette 1 in Gallio. The programme is led by certified AMI guides and runs across meadows, historic mule tracks and nature trails.

E-Biking and Regional Cuisine

Le Melette’s gourmet tour combines e-biking with breakfast in a mountain hut and lunch at a mountain pasture or in a traditional hut. Local products from short supply chains are served. The mountain refuges and alpine huts of Campomulo also offer traditional mountain cuisine.

Forest Trails and Historic Paths

The Percorso didattico della Val di Nos leads through forest trails with information boards and picnic areas. The Valle dei Mulini offers walks along a network of paths through places of historic and scenic interest. Gallio’s mountain trails also include mule tracks built by soldiers during the First World War, which can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback.

Rock, Gorge and Ancient Trees

Near the Santuario della Madonna del Buso lies a narrow canyon carved into the rock by the Frenzela stream. The Spitzknotto, also known as Spizegonotto in the Stoccareddo area of Val Frenzela, is a massive altar-shaped boulder. Monumental, centuries-old beech trees grow at the Melette di Gallio; they are known as „le Puche“, a Cimbrian name meaning „beech“.

Memorial Sites and Special Cultural Destinations

The mills in the Valle dei Mulini processed grain from the Altopiano and powered Pestascorze machines used to produce tanning agents for leather tanning. Libr'Albero is a work of art and a reading retreat along the path to Monte Longara in Gallio. It was created from the trunk of a centuries-old spruce that was blown down during Storm Vaia in autumn 2018. The carvings include animals from the local fauna; there is also a small display case with books by Mario Rigoni Stern and other mountain stories.

Pilgrimage and History

The Sentiero del Silenzio runs through the forest near Campomuletto and commemorates the events of the First World War that shaped the Altopiano di Asiago between 1915 and 1918. The rebuilt Santuario della Madonna del Buso was inaugurated and blessed on 27 May 1927. It is dedicated to the Madonna del Caravaggio and became a pilgrimage destination, particularly on 26 May and 26 July.

Proximity to the Town Centre and Winter Sports

The Percorso ciclo-pedonale della Pace is located near the centre of Gallio. The Centro Fondo Campomulo has more than 150 km of trails for Nordic skiing. The alpine ski slopes of Melette 2000 are located in the municipality of Gallio, approximately 4.5 km from the town centre. The Valle dei Trampolini at Pakstall is about 1 km from the town centre and has ski-jumping hills, including the K95; international competitions have been held there.
